TURMERIC- The Golden Spice

Turmeric, sometimes called golden spice has many health benefits.


The commonly used spice in most of the Indian curries has extraordinary effect in improving our immune system and in aiding digestion & in maintaining proper mental & physical health.

Curcumin is the main active ingredient in turmeric.
It has powerful anti-inflammatory effects and is a very strong antioxidant.
It helps our body to fight foreign invaders and also has a role in repairing damage.

Anti-inflammatory
curcumin is a bioactive substance that fights inflammation at the molecular level
Curcumin delivers a one-two mechanism against free radicals. It blocks them directly, then stimulates your body's own antioxidant defenses.

Curcumin has so many health benefits and is present in TURMERIC , is absorbed in the body when combined with fats or peperine present in pepper.
That is probably the scientific reason of the spicy & oily Indian recipes.
Which over the years have been rejected by those who don't respect their own heritage.
Fats are needed moderately.
Remember, Dry, fat-less, boiled or roasted food, only salads & crash diets are not healthy diets. Our ancestors were masters in combining foods and spices to get best food value of any recipe.

e.g. I hope we all know "Haldi wala doodh" is a common home remedy of cough & cold or any internal injury.
Kachhi Haldi ki sabji is common food in Rajasthan.
From dal to any curry ghee & haldi are essential ingredient of Indian recipe.
